Lotus KM (Knowledge Management)

April - June 2001

ThumbnailOne of the larger divisions of Lotus, their Knowledge Management services/products, hired BiT Group to develop an overhaul of their existing Knowledge Management site. The original site was hampered both by some global Lotus.com navigation issues, as well as generally confusing site architecture for the Knowledge Management section itself. Additionally, Lotus had rigid design standards that prevented us from really pushing boundaries creatively.

HTML, Information Architecture

My Role:

Lead Information Architect

Results:

I initially had a lot of trouble translating the requirements outlined by our consultants into a site model of sorts. However, once I had a handle on what we were trying to do, I was able to develop a fairly complex site architecture (this architecture initially called for 60-70 unique pages, just to give you an idea) that focused on shortening paths to content for different, identified user groups.

In addition to devloping the site architecture, I was also repsonsible for assembling a list of needed content, as well as sorting existing content to see what could be recycled.

Unfortunately, midway through the development of prototype layouts for individual pages, the project was cancelled. The client's parent company cut off funding for the project, and it was put on an indefinite hiatus. So, the site that is live today does not reflect any of the work either I or BiT Group did.
