ThumbnailIn fall, 1999, I redesigned this site, since it had been a good 2 years since anything whatsoever had been done to it. I tried to use as much dynamic content as possible, in order to make it easier on the next person who'd be in charge of it. As a result, a lot of the content is generated from flat-file databases. Unfortunately, I didn't have the time to build the backend tools to update those flat files, so it still has to be done manually.

HTML, Perl/CGI

My Role:

Lead Developer, Lead Designer

Results:

I sort of ran out of time on this site, I'm afraid. The academic workload made it difficult to get a lot of the programming-intensive stuff finished, so the content-management tools are very basic. Only the display half of them was ever finished, so adding new content means manual access to the databases (flat-file, of course). Not ideal, but I figured it would be enough to get someone started, and maybe they could pick up where I left off.

Visually, I'm a little less happy with it every time I look at it. Primarily because I decided to make a slight departure from the traditional white and blue color scheme, just to make something a little more interesting. At the time it seemed like a good idea, but in retrospect it wasn't the best move. I can't believe I did it in black, either, since I've never really liked sites with black backgrounds.

Recently it looks like someone finally got around to doing some continuing maintenance on the site, as there appears to be a new effort to get current content on it.
